Full Exterior Strip and Re-paint – 14 Wallath Rd., Onehunga
This customer was all about quality and doing things right first time, so we fit the bill perfectly:-) Due to the presence of blistering of the paintwork over native timber, these were the signs that a full strip was needed. Painting over the existing paintwork, even if we treated all existing blistered areas, would have resulted in even more bubbling and blistering down the track. Often, the application of a new wet coat of paint can activate blisters where there were none before.
After stripping and sanding over 2-3 weeks, we used a Resene paint system, comprising:
- Two coats of Resene Wood Primer
- One coat of Resene Oil-based Undercoat
- Weatherboards received two top coats of Resene Sonyx Cool Colour – “Silver Chalice”
- Windows and doors received two top coats of Resene Super Gloss (oil-based)
Because of the sheer number of coats (five altogether), we brushed the first coat of primer, then sprayed all remaining coats, except the final top coat, which was brushed also. This meant the paint was applied more quickly, but more importantly, we limited the brush strokes in the finished product. After five brushed coats, there would otherwise have been a chance of a rather ropey finish, even though we are adept at minimising brush strokes. As it turned out, brush strokes were barely visible.
The resulting finish should last for decades!
